I'm Julie Wilmes, a portrait photographer for those who live their lives to the fullest, believe in the deep power of memory and revel in connecting with those they love. Telling stories and learning the story of your family is the thing I live for.

I didn't think this would be my life. I mean, I've always been the #artsy type, but mostly as a writer. I thrived on creating stories and envisioning the memories that my characters had, to give them deep backstories. Eventually, I found myself wanting to bring to life the stories in my head, to make real the moments I’d imagined. Without that ability, I turned to helping those I love preserve the stories of their lives instead, and it's been a wild ride ever since.

Being able to capture the story of your life, to take the memories out of your head and frame them on your walls, is the greatest use of my talents as a storyteller.

I am based in Dallas, Texas but I spend much of the year traveling all over the world for my clients. Feel free to click the link below to learn more about me and my hellaciously cute family. You won't regret it for one second.

Hello there!

Every photographer talks about how they "married their best friend". And I'm no different. Dustin (or as I call him by his middle name, Kyle) is my truthfully, my best friend - the man who brings me back down to Earth when I float away, who makes me laugh so hard that I snort and the man who knows exactly how to remind me of all of the good in this world.

He's my really hot roommate, who is obsessed with video games and I cannot wait to see us grow old together.

Have you ever met someone and you just KNOW that they are one of the coolest cats you'll ever get to spend time with? That's my kid.

She's the silliest billy in the land and pretty fuckin' cute if I do say so myself.

She's the perfect mix of her father and myself, and I cannot wait to watch her grow up - I hope that she's kind, funny, full of grace and every bit the warrior this world can handle.

We have three amazing pups that we call family; Jethro, Loki and Nova.

They are the wildest crew in the west, give the best snuggles and are CHAMPIONS at tug of war.

They were our first "kids" and without them, our home would be boring and less hairy. So I think we'll keep them.

Okay, that's a random thing to start with but I wanted to share some of the things that I LOVE. And look, my favorite Disney film is Tangled - can you guess why? Yes, it's the lantern scene! I literally cry every time I see it on screen and I can promise you, seeing it in real life is just as magical.

Lantern festivals are one of those tiny moments where everyone in the area is just as excited for a tiny glimpse of magic, and by god, they are some of the most enchanting events I've ever been apart of.

I LOVE

lantern Festivals

Another moment of magic that I spent my whole life dreaming that I would one day be able to see. The chance to see the lights dancing in the sky, in almost a lyrical sense made me feel as if I could be in the stars too.

I saw them in Iceland in late 2015, and it was more mesmerizing than I dreamed it could be. Like look at the photo! HOLY SHIT - it was AMAZING.

I firmly believe stories and books are one of life's little magic tricks. The imagination of J.K. Rowling is something that I will always be grateful to spend time in.

That little boy in the closet, who was a hero in every sense of the word - he's who I look up to, who I aspire to remember in times of heartache and this world inspires me to look for just a little more life whenever I can.

Julie has been my go to for all of my life events and special occasions for the last ten plus years. She is able to capture the emotion within a moment that lasts forever. From our engagement, wedding photos, baby announcements, graduation portraits and intimate shots, she is a constant professional who will work with you to make sure that you are getting photos that you will be proud to display for years to come. She always takes into account our individual personalities and styles when planning a photo shoot, which I have always appreciated. Julie cares so much about her work and her clients. I will never use another photographer as long as I have Julie in my life.

the pohl family

Every important event that I have had in my life, Julie has been a part of. She took my college graduation, engagement and wedding photos and when the times comes, she will capture my maternity photos. There is no one I trust more during those amazing experiences in my life and those photos are some of my most treasured possessions. Julie has such a natural talent and is amazing at what she does!

the peoples family

I have known Julie for many years, (as a family friend for as long as I can remember,) so when the opportunity came to pick a photographer to capture my wedding, I knew she was perfect for the job. She captured our engagements, bridals, and all of the wedding festivities in a way that allows me to look back at the photos and remember every single moment about those days. When we became pregnant, we knew we wanted Julie to follow our story. She even allowed us to have our dog in our maternity photos! Julie has such an eye for capturing her clients, their families, just as they are. We love Julie and will continue to use her for all of our family photography needs.

The shannon family

We are so beyond thankful for Julie, she goes above and beyond for you, and it's because she loves what she does and she loves the couples that she works with. Basically, she's the bomb!

the holbrook family

There are not enough words for how wonderful Julie and Dustin are! She truly was a god send for our wedding and we were so blessed to have them.

If you don't want a photographer who centers everything around boring poses, then choose Julie! Almost all of our pictures are candid and our friends and families loved the result.
